Would you pay .50 per item for advertising - 06-21-2007, 12:02 PM

If i told you that 5000 people or more just depending would see your business and URL or coupon would you be willing to pay .50 - 1.00 per item for the advertising?

I wish i could go into more details but I am in the middle of setting this idea up and its so simple that I cant go into details because i dont want people to steal it. I just thought i would see what other business people thought advertising.

It's less than direct mail but your target is not as controlled as direct mail. that's really the only draw back. You can target the right vendors that would advertise. It's a very global idea that could be used world wide.

At $0.50 to $1.00 per impression, I could place two to four full page color ads in my local newspaper, ~5,000 distribution, targeted by section of my choice, for the same price. That would give me 2-4 impressions per person, but with the same people, which is even better in my opinion.

Would love to hear the idea just to have a clearer picture for evaluation, but at that price, I would want guarantees or historical data showing outrageously good response and closed sales.

Damn, your local newspaper is CHEAP! I still rely on direct marketing aimed at those people that I KNOW need my service (Seniors). I do run ads in paper, but I find they are never very effective and readership of local papers is sketchy at best. (At least in my area.)

Like PARAQUAT said if your talking about even .50 a set of eyeballs for 5,000 of them that is $2,500 out the door for who knows what so this price point is pretty high. Now if you are talking $1 to reach 5,000 then not bad at all.

To be honest you can get a decent sized ad in any college newspaper which would target a certain audience for a lot less than .50 an eyeball for a decent sized ad and then there are hundreds of magazines that would charge well under .50 to 1.00 an eyeball for a decent sized ad. even though the total amount may be higher because of their circulation size.

To really make this viable you need to cut your costs by 45-90% for the US Market and maybe even more in other markets.

Accountable readership numbers, demographic information, and of course, targeting can make any marketing effort more effective. Many community newspapers focus more on landing the sale than creating good marketing opportunities, much less gathering viable statistics.

The paper I work for has a very strong business leadership, so we often do special sections targeting specific demographics and advertisers. I've put in two special section ads this year and landed a $1,500+ client on each. (both were photography ads, both landed web design clients; measure that with whatever yardstick you want)

this wouldnt be for the photographer but i can see sonic/ whataburger/ tacobell doing something like this maybe with a barcode that is for a free drink or fries or something. probably not for .50 cents per I was just picking a number that was easy to do the math. I would have to get it down to the pennies. to give the kick backs to the events that i want to give i am not sure i can do it and make enough to make it worth the effort. could be why no one does it.
