I've done it for personal buying and selling. Never tried to link it to a web site, if that's what you're trying to do.

I use it. It can be a little confusing at first. I had to call them and get them to explain hoe some of it works. I'm still working on a website, so right now I only use the virtual terminal.

Bill,
yeah, it's totally confusing. I guess I'll have to call.

I have it hooked up to my site. I can go through another merchant but I already had a paypal account so I am using it.
Have you filed for your DBA? If you haven't you will have people calling you about cc acceptance. I had a guy go off on me cause I said I was using paypal.

I use it...it works pretty good for me. It is integrated into the shopping cart template that I use. One thing that I like about it is that when you have the PayPal debit card with the mastercard logo you can use the money right away. I can have orders sent to the lab within minutes of the client paying me. the template I use for my shopping cart is the EOS template. You can use it right on your own server without paying a huge amount of money to a service like photoreflect or pictage. (I will say that you get what you pay for)

I use it with a JAlbum skin called fotoplayer. It works OK but if you consistently have a lot of CC transactions it's probably not the best thing to do.

Thanks everyone. I'm thinking I might just go with a terminal if the fees are near equivalent. So far, everyone's paid with check, but I know once the larger print orders come around and Christmas too, I'll probably be getting CC orders.

I do quite a bit of CC transactions...never had a problem with it. The only problem that I can see is that people tend to leave quite a bit of money in their PayPal accounts. PayPal is not a bank and not subject to the same regulations and I dont think they are FDIC insured. I do leave a little in my account, but transfer most of it to my business checking account.

If you would like to be able to take credit cards in person or over the phone, they have services like that to. PayPal has not always been the easiest to deal with, but they are getting better. "We're better than we used to be" could be the slogan of a lot of different companies, DeLeon Photography included.

Why not just take cash and/or checks? No need to mess with ridiculous credit card fees that way.

The lady that ordered these photos is in a different state. So it cost me 7.39 in PayPal fees to make a profit of aprox. $200

I use Paypal on my site through the EOS template and BreezeBrowser. It works pretty well. My day job company uses a company called iTransact and they have a virtual terminal that you can use through a web browser like Firefox and process credit cards. I think they pay $30 a month for that, and I *believe* a very small transaction fee. As I don't take a lot of credit card payments, I have stuck with Paypal. In the future, however, I am looking at a service like iTransact because in the long run, I believe, the fees will be cheaper.

Just my 2 cents worth.

My website is built on Gallery2 and has the Checkout modules installed that includes a PayPal option, all of which is free. PayPal is the easiest solution for the part-time photographer. It can be setup in an instant and there are no upfront fees. I have, unfortunately, a low volume site. This solution works great for me and for the ability to offer credit card payments without any fees until there is a sale, I think the PayPal fees are reasonable.

Have fun,
Greg
