Don't expect to make anything on post-event sales for stuff like this. You may get a few IF it is some big celeb or something, but most people will look at them on the sales site and move on unless it is a stellar picture. Better to get your fee up front and offer the charity 100% of sales. Watch how quickly they will balk at that because they know people won't buy them that often. When you meet with their rep, look around the room and see how many event/celeb shots they have in their office. I'm betting not too many and they always get to meet and greet the celebs. I worked for a charity for a little over a year, did the hosting etc. In my situation I kept all the sales in addition to my fees. Why? Because my fee was for my time, they got discounted image rights and the sales were a (very small) bonus. Wouldn't have been worth the time if I didn't have automated software for 99% of the upload/sales process.
To me, those type events are mainly shoot and burn. Just simple solid images and let it go at that IMO. Give the charity the proceeds but don't spend time on much post work as they are candids. Or maybe give a little on your hourly rate and just upload the pictures and let it ride. If they want you to host/sell someone else's pictures you need to make sure they own the copyright/license that allows them to do that. |
