MUA / Stylist that won't flake? - 08-07-2007, 11:28 AM

We desperately need a MUA / Stylist that will not flake and is reasonably priced.

I have tried MM with ZERO luck (as bad or worse than the models), and the last straw was this weekend with a "no show" "no response" after I booked her with the deposit.

I am beginning to wonder is there is such a thing....

Can anyone help me out with a referral?

Cheers,

W

I use Chris J - 832-259-1417 -- and she's been great to work with, always on time (early) and very professional.

Sorry.. I just had to laugh at the title. I have often thought about posting one similar with the word "MODEL" in the subject line.

IMHO... Internet "models" and "MUAs" are (for the most part - NOT ALWAYS) young people that are not really serious...and label themselves as such, but are not professional. It apparently gives them an ego boost to have some sexy pics of themselves for Myspace and their FREE Model Mayhem accounts and call themselves a model. It's all about "ME" these days.

I have all but given up on shooting "models"...My time and respect is worth oh so much more.

Rant over.

Good luck!

I hear ya Andrew.... MC & Dirty1.....thanks, but I think they are too far away.

It is really frustrating with the MUA though, because you would think that they would want the business from us...as we almost ALWAYS get asked about the MUA from our wedding clients. I posted outside of MM as well...but wound up with the "self proclaimed" MUA's. I inquired to one about her portfolio and the response was "no I use my phone so I do not have to carry one"....I said, "you have your portfolio on your phone?" she said "Yeah, cause it has reminders on it and stuff", I said "sweetie...maybe you are thinking of a planner, and not a portfolio? Your portfolio has pictures of all the make up and hair you have done...you know, for your clients" she said "i dont have no pictures, but I have been doing my grandmothers make-up for the last 4 years since she had the stroke, and I did my neices graduation make-up, plus I am a seasonal employee with Mac during the holidays so this is not my first time doing this", I said..."have you ever done a bridal party?" she says "make up is make up, it doesnt matter who it is going on", I said "it does when you have a stressed out bride, and things are falling behind"....thanks

I dunno, maybe it shouldn't even be an offering or something we dabble in, but even if I am going to refer a client...you have to have a name of someone you can count on you know?

I am looking for someone in the $100-$125 range, preferebly in the North Dallas area...or is this a "pipe dream"?

Anyone?

In your price range, what are your expectations for # of looks and total time spent with the client?

Many will do one or two looks for that price, but if you expect a 4-5 hour total for that amount, you're going to attract the flakes. Also does your price include hair styling? Again, ask yourself if you will work for that amount given the time spent by the MUA?

I have several very dependable artists that I employ:

I don't believe any of these are on Brad's list.

you do understand that a MUA needs to be Licensed by the state to apply make up. karen is in the range and does hair. you could probably add 30 or 50 for her to travel.

Brad, thanks for the contacts.... Adam, likewise on Karen (thats good to know if I am in a pinch).

Scott, thank you as well...and I totally get what your saying. Factoring in the hair... I am probably a bit low even though it is one look, and one style.

Anyway...I have some great leads to chase down, so hopefully I can "dial" something in with one of them.

Many thanks to all of you for your assistance!

Cheers,

W
