All rights usage to a photo? - 09-17-2007, 10:22 AM

Where would I begin to start to charge someone for a photo like this? It wouldn't be a stock photo or anything like that.
The customer wants a full body shot, that can be used for a cut out (like you see with sports players and movie stars on them in the mall etc...) So obviously I wouldn't really need the pic for myself. I told him I would get back to him later today. Any suggestions as to where to start?
TIA
Breezy

This would be a good start:
http://www.texasphotoforum.com/forum...ad.php?t=47032

but a few questions:
Do they need all rights or just print rights?
do they need them on a permanent basis or could this be renewed or limited?

this is not the same as a wedding portrait or family portrait, so consider your cost carefully so you won't be kicking yourself afterwards

For my commercial clients, I charge $250 per each full resolution file with non-exclusive rights. This in addition to the day rate per contract.

I've sold individual photos and issued "full rights" for as little as $700. This was an image that I otherwise would not have a use for. It was also to a large corporation that had deep pockets.
Why does this client want full rights ? Does he understand the differences ?
Perhaps he just wants to do whatever he wants to the image. i.e. make prints, cut outs, banners, TV ads, etc.
If you would have no further ability to be compensated for a photo of this client, I would charge the regular fee for a portrait, and add on whatever you feel is fair for his "right to do whatever he wants" to it.
Is that vague enough ?
