DVD of Photos all rights sold to client - 09-17-2007, 11:13 AM

Okay, so I offer to sell all rights to photos on DVD for $250.00

I make a little note which I sign that says All rights granted to Smith Family and I sign it and offer a phone number for any questions. I also print it in small font on the DVD.

But now that they have bought the rights, in past CD's I do not include my signature on the bottom of the digital files (this is in case they want to crop it to print on a different dimension and I usually save them as is 4x6. Also, so that there is less problems when printing and making copies for themselves. Less questions asked I would assume.

In the end, how do you all handle this type of sale. Do you sell with signature on digital files or prints only?

Thanks.

Do you mean CD?? I don't think you can print off a DVD....2nd $250 is way to cheap to sell rights to and entire session. You would come off making more money just selling prints, don't sell yourself cheap. If you do sell a CD of images you wouldnt put your signature on the images.

you can store files on a DVD just like a CD... only thing is that you have to have a computer with a DVD reader to view them.

And they hold up to 4-5gb vs the 750mb of a CD

Ummm...never sell ALL your rights. It is usually better to sell limited rights - like reprint rights. Agree with Tonya on the price point.

DITTO.

Then again.. price point may be subjective based upon fee for services. I charge a semi-substantial price for the services and include print credits. The limited rights on digital negative discs are an add-on that I price in between my average after the fact print sales and where most people choose not to purchase the discs. I vary that based upon many factors. For me, I try and work it where I maximize my profit margin without losing too many. Constant tweaking is usually the norm.

I save it both ways most of the time, I tell them to print from the print file, but if they put on the web, to use the signature version for online posting.

That is a good idea.

I sell a dvd of the wedding photos with no signature on them. With limited rights. The catch is I only garuntee that they will be able to print a 5x7 from the DVD. I dont provide a full resolution image.

The last batch of CD's I sent out had print release for the high res images, but I included a folder labeled "small" and put in a 400x600 copy each image with my watermark on it. Told them that could be used for web/email as long as the logo stays....
