All In The Name - 11-11-2007, 05:19 PM

Does anyone else have this problem or am I just thinking too much into this.

I am going to start doing photography on the side of my normal job, so I am looking to name my photo business. The only problem I can see is my last name is long and hard to say. I have read some place that it can cause problems for people remembering and hard to spell so I wouldnt want a potential customer to have trouble finding my page. So here is my last name

Hucksoll

My nick name HUCK works well to shorten it, and I have tried putting it with other words....IE Hucks Photography or Photos By Huck. I think its looks a lot like the F word and sounds like it. Any thoughts. Maybe I should use another name that doesnt have my last name with it.

Well, whenever I see the name "FuddRuckers" I always think of the F word too. They're a successful chain though.

How about Purple Fringe Photography.

I always thought it sounded cool, although the term is a NEGATIVE for photographers... but none of your customers would know. I'd probably call my business something like that, just for fun. ;-)

Well my camera is equipped with a 1000 megasquirtle light sensitive array with a megakilo double widget interface and a pseudo-terrafilter. its got 2 million hexafurtles with a 10 kiloplex and a rechargeable virtual combo-backplate. i also fitted an optical fillyfangle with predictive threshold histogram monitoring. it also has a light sensitive light meter and a time sensitive shutter mechanism.

A couple of thoughts:

Who said you have to use your name in the business name? Maybe something that describes the types of photography you plan to do?

What's wrong with Thomas if you don't like how the last name works? "Thom" if you are going for an artsy feel.

Seriously, choosing a name can be tough. Our last name is long, too, especially when you combine it with Photography. Just for kicks, we threw in Fine Art to make it a little longer.

Poor focus behind the camera creates as many bad photos as poor focus through the camera!

My last name is the same way...I do remember in a business class I took that if you choose the first letter of the whole name somewhere in the upper letters of the alphabet you get more business i.e. when looking in the yellow pages people will usually start from the beginning...with the A's. That's why you see so many "AA Autosales", "AAA Autosales"...certainly don't name your business that but just something I remembered.
