Question Pricing Quinceaneras? - 11-14-2007, 02:13 PM

I received my first inquiry about photographing a quinceanera. I did a search on the forum and didn't see much about pricing them. What's a good rule to follow--60%, 70%, 80%, 100% of your wedding prices? Do you offer the same things for quinceaneras that you offer for weddings (albums, prints, etc.) at wedding prices or discounted prices?

Any advice?

Thanks,
Norma

They are JUST as much work as a wedding. I price them much the same and if they don't want to pay, I am fine with that. You have to remember, this "wedding party" is 10+ 15 year olds! They are NOT nearly as easy to work with as adults (most of the time!)

EXACTLY!!!

Price like a wedding. I have only done one.. but I have been to a couple.

The court will usually consist of 7 girls and 7 guys plus the Q and her escort (total court is usually a symbolic 15). The one I did also had 2 little girls and 2 boys in the party. The ceremony is like a long wedding ceremony. There is Mass and communion and the gift presentations. Most will want lots of formals with all the different family members. The reception is usually preceded by a dinner.. and the receptions will likely go on until midnight.

As for portraits - yes they will want one of her in her gown beforehand.. equivalent to a bridal portrait that they will want blown up and on display for the ceremony/reception.

For those of you who have published price lists, do you have a separate price for quinceaneras, even if the prices are the same as weddings?

I really appreciate the info, too, as I am starting to get asked about quinceaneras also. Thanks

Well I price them about 80% cost of my wedding priceses. Yes they are a more work then a wedding due to the fact you are working with kids. But it is a birthday party so the stress level is not as high as in a wedding.

In a quinceanera most of the time you don't have to deal with bridezillas or crazy "mother of the bride". And although you try not to miss any important shots, but if you do miss one. Most the time it is ok, you did not ruin her quinceanera.

It has been my experience:
Quinceanera's are more physical work. But and I mean a BIG BUT, less Mental STRESS!!!!
Weddings: less work, BUT a lot more Mental STRESS..

To me mental stress costs more the physical work.
Good Luck

I've shot a lot of Quinces, and the studio I shot for price them almost the same as weddings at or around the 80% figures due to the low stress/mental level & the parents' budget.

I actually find that shooting a quinceanara is much easier than a wedding. Most of the time, it's very relaxing & I have yet to encounter any alcohol related problems and the kids are fun to work with. Also, I've always enjoy their presentation as well.

Good luck & have fun Norma, if you need help, shoot me a pm.

Thanks for everyone's input. I hadn't considered the lower stress level of a quince vs. a wedding and how that could be reflected in your pricing structure.

Holy thread resurrection Batman!

Thought I'd bump this to the top as I received an inquiry for a Quinceañera recently.
After discussing the details with one of the friends doing the planning, it sounds like a wedding, with coverage wanted from noon-10 P.M.
I'm wondering if I should just price it like a straight across wedding or 80% like some have mentioned.
They'll also be wanting a portrait session about a month before, for a large print at the reception hall.
Sounds like it should be good, but I'm not sure they'll like the price.

Think of it as a dry run for her wedding. Very much like a wedding.

I price the same as wedding coverage, but throw my photo booth in for free. I have a friend who is saving for her daughter's Quince already--the daughter just turned 11. My friend said their family spends $12-18K per girl so it is VERY much like a wedding.
