Want to Earn More $ for the same product? - 11-20-2007, 03:52 PM

Check this out. I was getting my Thanksgiving stuff the other day. While I was going up and down the aisles, there was this cool little coke bottle on an end-cap. Nice product placement. I grabbed it and wanted to show Mike.

The coke bottle has been squished into a round little bottle. It looks like a special plastic bottle for Christmas. The photo is of a similar bottle of Coke marketed for the World Cup in Latin America. The Christmas bottle is the same size and shape with Santa on it.

A regular bottle of Coke usually cost $0.88. This bottle cost almost 14% higher b/c of the packaging (and it may have less soda in it).

Short version - pretty packing makes a big difference. You can charge more for the same product (and people are happy about it) when the packaging is 'cute.' Cute sells. If you can apply this to your holiday sales, you're golden!

I was hoping someone in the family would think that a couple of 580 flash units were "cute".

Well, they are unique alright, but they take forever to get cold and I feel like I'm drinking from a coconut. But they are a novelty that entice purchase for sure.
