Flyers on car windshields to advertise? - 12-03-2007, 09:02 AM

Just wondering what are everyone's thoughts on placing flyers on car windshields to advertise your business or service.

Is it illegal or does that vary from city to city? Is it a sign of desperation or low class?

I am mostly annoyed when people leave flyers on my windshield but if its a service that I'm interested in I do read it.

Let me know what you guys think.

Thanks

That kind of answered your question. I think flyers work OK for some stuff, but it kind of seems like ghetto advertising to me. It has the 'passing-in-the-night' kind of feel to it. Just my opinion...maybe it works well for others.

you will need the permission of the property owner (parking lots are private property).

Like the late Mitch Hedberg used to say, "When someone gives me a flyer, it's like they're saying, 'Hey....*you* throw this away....'"

Use your existing clients... ask them for testimonials or referrals....if they're happy, they'd be glad to recommend you. See if they'll pass out a card or two at work.

In advertising, a rifle works better than a shotgun. What kind of clients are you looking for? If you're doing high end weddings, would a flyer on a windshield be the right approach?

Think about who you want to work with, then find out where they live / shop / eat....and put unobtrusive ads there.

Just my two cents...

When a business leaves flyers on our cars at church we send them a bill for $100.00 for parking lot litter control.

I hate flyers on my windshield and never read them, they end up as trash always. So for me I would not consider it a very good way to advertise.

I love this answer.. I've always wanted to get a friend down at the police station to send them a ticket for littering.

Several years ago we had a photographer leave flyers on cars in the parking lot during our bridal show on a university campus. I called her and told her she needed to come back and pick up every one of them or we would turn her in to the University PD She came and cleaned it all up.

I read them... So I can see whom it is I will never be doing business with.

And I have thought about sending these people a bill for renting space on my windshield and a storage and archival fee.

Wow! Glad to see I am not the only one that hates this type of flyer
I rank this type of flyer right up there with cigarete butts on the road side LOL

Another thing I hate is people that go down our street and place flyers in our mailbox!

I put it right back in the mailbox with a note to the postmaster to call and warn them it is illegal to place handouts in a federal post box. And I usually call them and tell them if they do it again I will press charges!

CHEAP!

I got one for a strip club the other day...I "read" it...but really I only checked out the girls on it. I don't even remember where it was from.
