OK - so we are going to do a shoot for our bridal shop. The plan is to shoot a model in one of our new wedding gowns. The images will be used on a billboard and on our wedding gown website. How much should I expect to pay a model for usage for 1 year? A starting point would be helpful.

depends on the model. If she is some one that is popular then it's going to be high. Average model your probably looking around 400-1000.

Thanks Adam. I doubt it will be one thats popular since she'll have to be in/ near Abilene. There is a little modeling school here - think I should check it out or do you think they'll be PITAs? I usually find great models on MM, but thats when we are in major cities, not so much around here.

let me put it this way. If she's working with an agency then it's going to cost ya. If you are trying to get her to do it for free then you get what you pay for. You are going to see a difference in the model if she's free vs a model coming from an agency. 400 for a couple hours is cheap and if you put it in your contract that you get to run the image for the payment you can probably get by with just the one payment.

If you where to do this for a client would you suggest they find some one to do it for free.

Thanks. I'd rather have a pro b/c it makes a huge difference. The image has to sell the shop. I was also asking so that I don't underpay or overpay someone.

What about low res web-only images? What's going rate for the model on that? I have a few bridal shops asking for stuff we already shot. Since they keep asking, I thought I should check into it. We don't do a lot of commercial, so its new to me. What do you charge on an image you already have? And Im assuming I need to pay the model to use her image?

It all depends on how you wrote your contract to begin with. If you state that you can pretty much use the image for any commercial usage than you dont have to pay them again. I do a year usage for web and print. Unless the usage goes over a given amount of sites and print.

IE
5 sites
2 runs in the paper
1 billboard for a 6 months.

depending on the model I can usually get that for a 200-800 plus the modeling fee. I also put it in the contract that I can use the image in my book. some agency models will let you get away with just about anything if the model is some one they are trying to promote. best bet is call an agency up and ask them if there is an up and coming model that they want to promote. Ask for some head shots to be sent over and then make a list for a the Go see. Or you can just do a cattle call. for the cattle calls you tell the agent what your looking for and they send everyone over to you.
