Question Print and Web Rates ? - 12-09-2007, 10:20 AM

OK - I alluded to it another post.

We are shooting a bunch of models in wedding and bridesmaids gowns that other bridal shop owners are going to use on their websites. Some of them are asking for print & TV rights also.

Assuming I break this up into 3 categories

1. Web Only
2. Small Print - limited circulation
3. Large Print - large circulation

What is a benchmark figure to be charging for usage of each, annually? I have some pricing on #2 and #3 - but Im not sure Ive seen going rates for web only. So - main question - what is going rate for web-only, non-exclusive?

I was thinking for option #1 - all the low-res files will be uploaded to a website that they pay to have access to. Then they can grab what ever they want.

I was thinking for options 2 & 3 they could request the larger file with one time print rights and we'd do that per image.

If you have better ideas as to how to set it up - let me know.

Edit:
I'm finding rates all over the board - starting at $25 per image. They seem to top out around $125 per image - web only. Does that sound normal to anyone?

Hi Holly

I would highly recommend a program called FotoQuote to you. FotoQuote It allows you to tailor your price to more specific usage. I've used it for some time and have been very happy with it.

As for the information you provided, it is not detailed enough to give you a good range of quotes. Feel free to drop me a note off list or in PM and I'll see if I can give you a better idea of what the market is.

Best to you

David

Holly, so long as the photos are not being used in a national or regional advertising campaign (ie...Brides Magazine and the like), I'd probably price my stock at $35-60 for non-exclusive use. If you are giving them duration-related rights (your example -- one year), make sure you have a reuse fee already set in place. My reuse fees are set at 67% of original fee.

Now everything is thrown out the window if the image is being used in an ad campaign. Way higher prices if that is the case.

Anyway, that's how I do it. Hope it helps! :)
