Familial obligations is the only thing that keeps me from going. I've heard nothing but great things about it. If it were closer, I'd be there in a heartbeat.

Hey, it's only about a three hour commute each way. Leave about 5 am and get home before 10 pm.

I come from the IT field & have attended too many 3-4 day boot camps. Is that what this is? Do I need to know more going in to truely benefit from this course?
Some might call this boot camp with a party each evening. There are beginning level classes for those starting out. Steve Kozak from Grapevine has a killer class on turning Pro. Doug Box and Dave Newman both have beginning to intermediate level portrait classes, and Kalen Henderson is dynamite with high school seniors.

You won't find anything like this in Dallas or anywhere else in Texas that I am aware of.

Take it from another that has been a few years.....it is so worth it....not only are you learning from the instructor your are with 15 or so other photographers in your class that will teach you stuff too. And then all the people you meet along the way in the evenings and at lunch.....it's overload...it's wonderful.

If you have the time and have the funds don't pass this up.

I was hoping to snag an assistant postion, but no luck. I'm afraid the out of pocket expense is keeping me from going this year. Yeah, I know that it will pay back many times over, but I just don't have the cash flow right now.

Next year will be better, and I am going to put aside the time on my calendar.

Anyone else going? - 01-19-2008, 04:35 PM

I signed up, so now I have to find someone who will be "mom" to my kids for the week. I'm hoping grandma want's that job, and won't drive my husband crazy while I'm gone. Really looking forward to it!

Texas School 2008 - 01-20-2008, 09:37 PM

Both my wife and I are signed up. We'll both be 1st timers. Have only heard good things about the experience and education opportunity. We signed up within seconds of registration opening so hope we snag our 1st choice of classes.

I'm going for the first time this year. Can't wait to find out which class I got. I was sick when it was time for registration, but I set my alarm clock for midnight to register. I've heard nothing but good things about it. Hope to make lots of new friends.

Having attended Texas School for 9 straight years, I can say without a doubt, it is the absolute best photographing training for the money anywhere.

Where else can you study with the world's finest photographers for 5 days...get all evening meals free, all evening alchoholic beverages free, as well as nightly entertainment...FREE?
For only $400.
Attendance gets you two PPA Merits that apply toward any PPA Degree, as well as 5 Texas Points that apply toward the TPPA Fellowships.

I hear about seminars all the time in the $500 range for only one or two days.

The school now has a forum so you can log in (with your real name please), find your class, and get to know each other before school starts. Click this link to get started: http://texasschoolforum.org/

Don,
Glad to hear your back after the accident. I heard about it a few days after I got home from PPA. Are you back in the studio yet?

I am not actually shooting yet, but I have had a few sessions that others have done for me. I should be back to work this week. I still need an assistant to tote my camera outside.
