Houston Art District Location - 01-10-2008, 07:25 PM

Dear Friends and fellow photographers,

I am looking to find the art district of Houston so that I can research the area and what the majority is as far as artist are concerned.

Can any one help me in pin pointing this area?

Thank you for your help in advance.

There is not really a single art district for Houston, since we are such a large city geographically.

Prime places though include the Heights (19th st)
Museum District
Rice Village
and Montrose

Thank you for that info. Do these area have galleries to walk in with all types of art on display? Also in those areas are there places to possible be artistic or simply relax and enjoy a beverage?

Thanks,
Keith Allen

The main galleries (museum of fine arts-both buildings, contemporary art museum, etc) are in the Montrose area. Look for Montrose where it intersects with Main and Fannin at the roundabout. That will get you close. The Menil Collection and Rothko Chapel are also right near there as well as the Glassel School of Art.

Some nice cafe's/restaurants in the area, too.

Thank you all very much for the info. Like I said I am back in the Houston area and am looking for the most prestige location to open a state of the art gallery, Professional studio and Educational center for the willing and up and comming photographer and artist.

Please fill free to keep up this conversation, I can use all the insight and wisdom you can offer.

Thank you again,

Keith Allen,
