Thats the silliest thing I've heard in a long time. Can this be legal? If so, then any company that produces a product can say you can't take a picture of items they've produced b/c they own the image content.

Although I'm no professiona legal photog this goes against everything I have read about photo legality. If these are the members cars I see this as nothing but bullying by Fards part. I'm a life long Ford Truck guy and I can tell you if they did this to me I would have someone with Ford on the phone giving them a peice of my mind.

makes me want to think twice before I photograph one of my eager seniors who just LOVES their OWN car and wants to have it included in an picture! I don't quite see the validity, but....you never know.

Seems to me if Ford wants to maintain control over the vehicle after it's sold by a dealer they should also own the maintenance bills, repair bills, tire replacement costs, oil changes etc...

this is common. In the railfan community (there are billions of us fruitcakes..), Union Pacific has taken the same tact with various calendar makers, model makers and such.

Well, heck that includes everything that we wear too.
No more shoots that include shirt logos. No more back shoots that shows off denim's brand.
Can't wear shoes that has trademarked logo, etc.

You would Ford would be flattered to have their product splashed throughout a calendar.

I'm still not totally sure whether this was Ford's decisoin or CafePress'. If they were doing it as a commerical venture then I totally agree with Ford, if they are doing it only as a non-profit venture within the club then it shoudl be fairly easy to get an o.k. from Ford.
I'm a member of the Hummer Club and we not only have the o.k. from GM and Hummer to use their logos, but their blessing. They go so far as to support our club events with $ and services.
Until I hear more I'm not so fast to blame Ford on this one, but I would think they would want the free advertising.
I couldn't get on to the bmc forums to see what updated information they may have. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
