Going loco over new logo! - 02-27-2008, 10:36 AM

UPDATED WITH ANOTHER SWING AT DESIGNS BELOW ...

I'm tweaking my logo, and have sort of narrowed it down to this type of thing.

Name: LogoForum copy.jpg
Views: 14
Size: 127.4 KB

I like the first one best: it can be reproduced in B&W or any color I could possibly want. I think it makes more of a simple, graphic statement.

The second one adds another color, but it also can be easily converted to B&W.

The third isn't my favorite, but my wife thinks the logo should say "Photography" because she thinks it sounds more sophisticated. But I use "photo" with my Web address because my name was long enough already.

Thoughts? If you say, "I hate all of them," be prepared to share with the class a suitable alternative. Thanks for looking!

I agree #1 is best.

Here's the only thing that bugs me -- every letter in the font you chose has beautiful curves, but the box has harsh straight lines. I would try something to try to break up the straight lines of the box. Maybe if you outlined the letters in black and the box in black, and had them mix together. Make sense?

I would agree with #1 from a design functionality perspective. Cost to reproduce with anything such as business cards, etc would be much cheaper, and easier to do. It keeps it simple.

I think Jamie may be on to something witht he box. Perhaps a box with rounded off corners? Only other suggestion I have would be for #1 to have a black background. It is very striking in the others examples, and in my opinion, would really pop with the white letters, without being harsh on the eyes.

I like the layout ideas though. Good job!

I say listen to your wife. I think she may be right as it is more detailed about who you are and, how can you go wrong when it isnt your decision.

Two colors for a logo is always a better idea then three or more. At least that is what my marketing buddies tell me. What the heck do they know... Ebay and Google have more then that! :)

I like the last with the rounded corners, but I like photography over photo. Photo sounds cheap to me.

Good work, Todd. I wasn't necessarily thinking that rounded, but it works well. Whats most important though, is do you like it? It is your logo after all, and has to represent you. Typically I would agree with Janice on photography instead of photo, but for your logo, photo is most practical and photography looks too awkward.

From my limited experience (my own logo which can be viewed on my web album) keeping it simple, but functional is the way to go. If you have to make big adjustments to your logo for each different application you need to use it for, it loses its meaning/power. My logo has been extremely functional and easy to use for any purpose (adding to photos, business cards, websites, etc)

I like the first one; maybe add a thin black line around the outside of the whole logo with a little white space on the inside. Or maybe the line can be the same color as the logo. IMHO. It still looks good anyway!

I second Janice's opinion about the use of Photo vs. Photography in the logo. IMHO, the name of the business should be Photography rather than Photo anytime. Photo sounds like a one-hour photo store rather than a photography business.

Thanks for the input, Michael! I like it.

The struggle I'm having is that I want everything to be inside the box, which might not be possible if I go with "photography." I'm going to play with it a little more this weekend, taking all the wonderful suggestions here into consideration.
