You can put down what you paid for it, but premiums are based on so much per $100.00 value. I would put down what it would cost to replace it with comparable equipment. So computers and cameras would be depreciated, but software might actually be higher than when you purchased it.

I had all my equipment stolen in September, replaced it all under my homeowners. Had replacement cost or else it would have cost me big-time.

Don't be surprised at the amount. Mine added up to almost $8k.

I finally got insurance 3-4 months ago. I have a spread sheet with makes, models, serial numbers, replacement value and pictures. Which is backed up like twice. After adding it all up, it was quite a bit higher than I expected.

I think Hill & Usher has one of the better insurance policies that I've found for photographers. Not only does it cover equipment and liability, but also lost data if you have a card go bad or hard drive fail.

Whatever you’re looking for is looking for you, too. The catch, of course, is recognizing it when it pops up in front of you.
