Press Credentials - How do they work? - Byron Nelson - 03-01-2008, 11:39 AM

I am getting NPA credentials. Is it worth getting the NPA credentials? Does it really help?

I want to use them for the EDS Byron Nelson tournament. Does anyone know who to contact for getting on the official press pass for the event?

Dude, don't waste 85 bucks on that piece of trash. It's completely bogus.

I go and shoot the Pro Ams at both Byron and Colonial every year.. Good times.

Met Tony Romo last year. Super nice guy and good golfer.

No press credentials needed prior to Thurs.

I was checking our national press association... but maybe the TPF membership has good/bad/ugly experience? I like Andrew's suggestion of going out on Wed to shoot the pro am.. Will plan on that

Most large events issue their own credentials. Usually, for press credentials you have to show that you are representing a bona fide media organization or that as a free-lancer you have lots of previous publications and having you there will be an advantage. Submit a request on letterhead or submit news clips. Back when I worked at newspapers, we had our own credentials, which would get us close to a police investigation, press conference, or high school sporting event. But for something larger, e.g., a pro sports event or political convention, you either need to have a previous working relationship or submit a request ahead of time. If you don't have a relationship with a publication, maybe offer to provide some photos for someone in exchange for a credential request on their behalf.

Right, the "NPA" is much like any other online group that puts your name on a list and sends you $.50 worth of lamination and plastic.

I would check with the media contact for the event, a little sweet talk gets you a long way.
