New Logo - 03-02-2008, 11:38 PM

Ok, I came up with a few new logo designs finally and would like to see what you all think. Which one do you like best. Also, I am considering changing my business name(will be the best time to do it) to John Hooper Photography. Right now I have the domain hooperstudios.com but there is another guy that has hooperstudio.com. Well, I originally wanted hooperstudio.com because I only have 1 studio so I went with studios. Well, my issues is that when telling potential clients my web address I always have to explain that it is hooperstudios with an s, that is a real pain. So what do you all think? Would www.johnhooperphotography.com be too much to type or do you think that is ok?

Middle one is my favorite with the shadow.

I like the middle one best too.

I like "studios" better than "studio," its a good name change. I don't think you need to worry about the plural. I've seen many photography sites that use "studios," when they don't necessarily have more than 1 studio.

First of all, I agree with your reasoning on changing the name.
Do you know there is another photographer out there with my exact name (first and last)? That ticked me off, lol.

As far as this logo goes you have a good start. If I may suggest some improvements...
1. Loose the box outline.
2. Loose the thin white keyline around the type in 1&3
3. Make the script H about 35% gray (or whatever looks good).

I probably prefer #1 with these changes.

I think you're on the right track here. The H/S thing earlier was OK but I couldn't come up with anything to suggest to you.

My biz is Todd Overman Photography, and I use www.toddovermanphoto.com as my domain name because I thought my name was already long enough.

That brings me to my logo (it's posted in this part of the forum in another thread). I like how "photography" sounds but my favorite logo design won't let me spell it out (yet). And "photo" is what I used in my domain name. Ugh. Guess what I'm trying to say is that IMHO, your site's name should match your biz name as closely as possible, whether you change the logo or change your business name (which you might want to do considering the confusion over the other "studio").

def number three, 3, III, tres.

since the x-height on hopper is not the same as the height of the all caps STUDIOS, you badly need the scripted H over there for balance.

i see eyes in that one, and whether that was intentional or not, it works. Afterall, it's a studio, where I assume you take pictures of people, who have eyes... and hopefully you have no shadows on the backdrop. Don't drop shadow. PLEASE. for the love of god. if you ever want to make the mark trasparent (gif or png), or screen print it, or change it's color, make it for two toned printing, etc you'll be screwed. Plus drop shadows are tacky always, no matter how many people think it looks cool. It's unprofessional and childlike, fat and distracting.

Like others said, I would see what it looks like without the border. The idea of framing correlates with photography, but i just dont know.

good work, this is much better than what you were going for before. Glad you changed to a identify mark instead of a lettermark.

I like #1.

Is just your name available, or does it have to have photography at the end? Personally, I'm a huge fan of "name" business. You are marketing YOU as a photographer. You're not selling your photography. Anyone is available for photography -- but there is only ONE YOU that is a photographer.

But that is just my opinion -- YMMV.

If you're going to change names, now is the time and I would do it. Having a .org instead of a .com is always confusing to people with one of my sites - so I'm sure the "s" issue is confusing your clients too.

JohnHooper.com is already taken so it would have to be JohnHooperPhotography.com It is not too bad but just seems a little long for an address. I could do JohnHooperPhoto also but I rellly want my url to match the company name.
