Hmmmm..... Personally, I like the first one better. The "H" in the second one seems out of place.

First one looks more flowing and gives your name the "name" with photography.

I like the first one best. Nice flowing 'h'
However, at first it looked like two hhooper. What would it look like with the flowing 'h' and leave out the printed one? Might not look as good, but I haven't seen it that way...so I don't know.
Just a thought. Try all the options before investing!
And this is a good place to try it out on all types of people, however, remember that these people are photographers. Try it on some "just people" types of people!

first one. nice.
i didn't even see the lettermark until this version, I thought it was just a fancy "h". it helps have john on the left, and hooper on the right.

maybe make the crossbar on the H, thinner, less intense. I think that's why no one is seeing the J in there.

Thank you all for the comments and suggestions. I will try this evening to make the crossbar on the lettermark a little thinner and see what that looks like. My wife drew it can could not replicate it, hahaha. If not I still like it the way it is so we will see.

I like the JH in the middle, too.

AND, I feel that you have a real brand opportunity, and not just a logo. After your new name is commonly known, you can drop the words and just use the JH....like the nike swoosh.
