CPAs - 03-24-2008, 09:56 AM

Can anyone tell me just a ball park how much a CPA charges for taxes for small starting out businesses? You submit them 4 times a year correct? I just got all my bank accounts set up so I guess I should start looking for a CPA and get a plan layed out.

This part is the only part that really scares me about running my own business. I don't want to screw it all up *giggle*

I know there is a thread a while back about CPAs in the area who would be recommended. Would you be so kind to repost some of those here so I can start looking that stuff up.

How much a CPA will charge is very dependant on the amount of work invovled in doing the work you need. I pay upward of 900.00 annually for my income tax and to have a CPA check my work. Of course, my studio is a 24/7 business and has some invovled financing. If you have a simple business and keep good records, you can probably get by with going to a tax service such as H & R Block and have them prepare your Income Lost Statement and then your 1040.

Unless you are not living in Texas, your State Tax paperwork is NOT income related but SALES tax related. Depending on the figures you furnished to the State Comptroller, you will have to file and pay State Sales Tax, Annually, Quarterly or Monthly.

Texas does not have a State Income Tax.

I am a Tax Accountant and work for a CPA firm - we charge a min of $250 for an individual return, but it all depends on how long it takes to prepare it. If you have all your stuff together and clearly identified then you can easily be in the $250 range, but if you just hand us a box of receipts and some scribble on pieces of paper then you will be looking at a lot more.

If anything, when you go to get your taxes done just have everything in order, doing it that way always saves you lots of money :)

Oh, and if you have any other questions regarding your federal taxes or your sale taxes just shoot me a PM I will be happy to help
Call me a nerd but I like doing taxes! I am a public auditor too, but if anyone has been part of their company's audit or has been an auditor then you would understand how doing taxes is a nice change of pace. Even if it is for only a few months out of the year. Right now I have been having fun doing about 4 to 5 returns a day, fun huh?!?

FYI:
I am NOT a CPA, but that doesn't mean anything. I know several CPA's that don't know diddly squat about taxes and some that just know a little. I work with several CPA's who are amazing when it comes to your taxes and even an individual who has been an accountant for 10 years and is also amazing when it comes to taxes, but just never got around to taking the CPA exam. I have been doing taxes for awhile now, have been trained by amazing CPA's, and do all the required CPE courses. I just don't have the 1100K to get my last 3 college credit hours to make the 150 college hours requirement in order to sit for the CPA exam :(

Anyway, I just wanted to to throw that in just to get me and you on the same page
