Renae,

Re-read the posts...Captain Tom and I both explained to you that once you list a home/residence phone number as a business it instantly becomes public record! The no call list doesn't apply for a business number. Just hang up on them. Once they realize you aren't biting, they will quit calling. It will take a few months thou.

I don't know. It's been a couple years since I got my dba, but I've never really had a problem with my cell number, which is what I use for business. I only give out my home phone rarely. It should die down soon, though, when they get no response from you.

Thanks CJ...but I understood them already...it just seems like a conflict of interest...they have a do not call list, but once you start a business...???? I mean do they think businesses want to hear this crap any more than homes/???? A do not call list, is a do not call me!!!! list...

I know it's just a way to get around the do not call list...guess they wanted to give me aanother reason to have a margarita!!! (as if I didn't have enough already!!! )

Oh I know, I have been in business with the one tax certificate for 15 years and I still get calls wanting to sell me something. I have inquired and the Attorney Generals office told me business listings are exempt from the do no call listing. So I just make it a point to have fun with them when they do call.

Or, would you like to take pictures of my child/wedding/dog/whatever for free? Your business will get a lot of really good exposure, as I know a lot of people. I'm sure it will make your phone ring off the hook.

No one has mentioned that they are sick of getting postcards and unsolicited credit card offers in the mail. How about a "do not mail" list ? Or even better, how about a "do not spam list" on the internet ?

I hate those calls too, but if I was in the telemarketing business I'd argue that it was my right to call whoever I wanted to solicit business from. The gov't has stepped in and drawn a line in the sand and said if private citizens don't want their home called, you can't call. Once you open a business, you are no longer at home, but at your place of business.

The credit card people are the worst. They call all day on my main line and tie it up. When I ask if this is a solicitor, they say no! So, I switched tatics from - stop calling me - to you so totally need a _________. Whats your phone number? I'll call you back with more info. They hang up fast and most stop calling. One company calls me about 5 times a day. Thats insane. Tip: NEVER request credit card processing info.

I put them on speaker and keep them on the line as long as possible so they won't be calling Renae, Holly, or Tom. I just keep doing my retouching and ask them questions they have to get a supervisor over to answer. I kept one of them on the line for almost 20 minutes before they caught on. There is probably a thread on the telemarketers forum complaining about me.

Me too !! I am often listening to the police/aircraft scanner so I'll put the phone next to the speaker. I'm sure after they listen to a few police calls they get the point that I am not paying attention to them.
The worst thing you can do is hang up on them immediately. That gives them the time to call the rest of us. Spend their time and have some fun. "I know, they are only trying to make a living, but I'm too old to care".

When I got them (and still had a land line) I used to say "Hold on a minute"and put the phone down and go upon my normal activities.
With a cordless phone it was fun to take it to the restroom. Gotta wonder what they were thinking sometimes.

A misunderstood rule. An HOA can't stop you from having a home office, where they can control you is if you have a storefront at your home or certain "hazardous" businesses. If you are running a retail studio from your home you are correct with some HOA's, but if you shoot elsewhere but run the photo business office from your home they can't stop you from doing that. You can do a search and find the man lawsuits on this issue.
