Gotcha.. so basically I just need to have a copy on file to insure that they are setup legally to pay the tax.

Makes sense...

I was confused by the "amounts on line 1 and 2" statement.

On your Sales Tax Report you receive from the Comptrollers office:

I often report alot more in Line 1 on my return. However, the amount you pay taxes on is in Line 2.

Everything in Line 1, you should have a valid exemption form for.

One thing to note, if you file online with No Tax Due, I don't think you have to worry about this.

Sorry, back to the topic now.

Thanks Jon.

This is very true. I am not trying to "call out" anyone, merely pointing out issues that could lead people astray. While I agree with situations being different in many cases, and the need for specialized or customized solutions, the fact is, the Law is the Law. There is no customized solutions for that.

Bottom line, you must have a Tax Certificate - before you start taking money - to do things according to the law. There are many years of experience (in photo businesses) that posted in this thread. Don Barnes, Howard Barlow, Myself, that I know of. These people taking the time to answer and pass on first hand experience is invaluable to those trying to start a business.

There is so much more to operating a business (Sucessfully) than just having a tax cert and dba, but those are things that just have to be completed.

The whole aim of this post (figment's info included) was to try and help clarify the process for those asking.

Thanks,

CJ

I knew it was not me, in did not even post in this thread before that, nor am i mad about anything and need calming down. I was just saying comments like that are usually not needed on the forum and are usually taken as personal attacks that end up getting people mad. Since yall are friends it is a different story, but in general, comments like that are not necessary.

Jacob,

While I think we all understand your intent, this is the Business thread. People posting in here are usually NOT interested in random, useless chatter. They are looking for solid, useful information that will help them in their business plans. The chance that random, useless chatter can cause someone grief if misinterpreted, is reason enough to not post these types of comments here.

Just an observation.

If you want "random useless chatter" take your crap over to the open forum .. or better yet over to offtopic.net .. it has no place in the Business Forum.
