I was wondering how many of you offered invitations or announcements to seniors alongside portraits. I am getting ready for the 2009 seniors and want to have everything ready. For those of you who don't, when people ask for one of your photos to be made into the invitation do you give a release to the invitation company or do you have the client purchase the rights from you for it?

We sell the invites, so the image only gets released to invite companies we use.

So you sell the invites through a invite company as opposed to having them printed by your lab? What companies are you currently using for invites? I've looked at a couple of labs that offer this type of service, one being whcc. Have you ever had a client not want to order invites from you and request a release?

I sell unlimited personal usage rights as part of the session package.

I have Carlson Craft invites - those are really nice, nice mark up, and they can print your image on some of their stuff. Those work well for those who want top of the line. I also make announcements and invites using Millers for their stuff. If they use us, the images stay inhouse. We can get everything they can get and more. If they got invites via the school tends to be the exception - then we sell invite inserts - aka 3x5s. They can include it with their invite.

Makes sense. Thanks for the info, I remember when I was a senior it was the standard announcement that looked similar to a wedding invitation and we just included wallets in them.

Thanks Paul! I will check those out. I've been looking at the different labs that offer them too and noticed a lot of them offer templates of their own to use. I'll have to check and see who will let you use outside templates as well.

No problem. Most labs will print these I believe. WHCC, B & H, ACI, Millers etc.... If you want to look at some other stuff as well as they will print also take a look at Marathon press.
