I am surprised she didn't all of a sudden like some of the images when you gave her that option...

No prints or files, just the EM gallery with "PROOF" over them. This was before I was doing the in person proofing.
I was expecting her to say she liked the images after I gave her the refund option, but that didn't happen.

Full disclosure - I do not make a living with photography. However I think this thread needs a sticky becasue there are so many valuable lessons in here for anyone considering photography as a business or a way to make some extra money. No one should read Coby's post as a direct shot or insult. It is one of the most informative post regarding photography as a business I have seen. There are many other great post in this thread as well.

I'm gonna say my 2 cents and chime out.

These werent total technical issues here. Much of it was user error.

In terms of everyone makes mistakes - they do, but these were newB mistakes. And I honestly think that you shouldnt be making fatal mistakes that a whole session could be tossed, unless you and all your gear fell in the lake. You should KNOW what your skill level is before you go pro. If you hate calling yourself pro, you probably arent there yet. Coby's right, you do NOT want to get sued. Refine your skills more and learn from this. ISO at 1600 and posing screw ups are preventable. Getting the kids to look in the same direction is also doable, when you know what you are doing. That kind of stuff isnt mistakes you should be making as a pro. Sorry if that was harsh, but I'd rather not get into legal hoopla with momzilla. I wouldnt wish that on anyone.

The good thing is that you don't want to give them a sub-par product. A lot of people would just say "screw it" and show what they had.

Your comment is legit for the original post.

My revival of the thread had nothing to do with user error ... I have 12 years as a professional photographer behind me. The technical details were just fine. This is about picky clients who don't like how they look, despite efforts to pose them in ways that tried to hide their flaws. It wasn't enough for them.
