Cool Critique my logo... - 04-10-2008, 09:54 AM

I am working on a logo design. So what do you think? What could I do to make it more interesting? It is supposed to sort of look like a cattle brand, since my business is named after our family's ranch.

I would suggest some colors. Maybe some "glimmer" to the diamond.

Try The Logo Loft, not very expensive to get some great designs and then you have it in vector format to use on anything.

I feel to many people discount the importance of a great logo!

I like it... and i think color is overrated... not like you can really use color on photos... It's simple and to the poing... maybe move the L on the top line a smidge closer.. its kinda hanging out there.. but i guess photography would have to be shorter/smaller for that...

Anyway, looks good to me...

I like the diamond and L together a lot. However, It seems like you could find a better font for the text. Also, I don't care for the expanded spacing you used in "Diamond L" and I think you need to add more space between the logo and text.

Cool direction you're going though!

oh yeah... and I second the vote for no color. I think you'll get more value out of it without the color, such as the ability to use it as a watermark in your photos.

Thanks for the input! Yeah, the L does look a little off... I'll work on that and see what I can come up with, will repost when I get a second.

I like the basic design. But I agree that there might be a wider space between the 'Brand' and the text. You would probably need a smaller font to accomplish that though due to the word photography.
For more interest, what about a faded background image of a landscape scene from the Ranch?

Ok, I fixed the hanging L and tried to space the text a little further from the logo itself...

I think I am going to keep it simple with no color (white if it's on a dark background?)

(Sorry if the original doesn't show up now, I accidentally deleted it on picasa. oops.)

Option 1 - squeeze photography in so it's justified under Diamond L instead of being longer on the right.

Option 2 - Make photography smaller (half or one third the current size) and center it under diamond L. Maybe try all caps for PHOTOGRAPHY? You can get away with smaller type sizes if its all caps but not sure if all caps will visually work here or not. Also play with the thickness of the dividing line and see if thinner looks better. It's all so bold and chunky.

If you have access to a more Western-y font that isn't overboard, you might try it. I'm with some of the other comments in that I like the text a little more normal or squished vs. spaced out.

The general design is a good one. Another thought: connect the line to the diamond/L to make it look more like a branding iron (?).

Thank you for all the replies, when I redid it that last time, I felt like that was what I had been going for all along. I think the all-caps and resizing really helped. Thank you to everyone! So I think I've got my logo... :)
