Is Quachadile Photography a good name? - 04-25-2008, 01:26 AM

I'm 19 years old and have a lot of college ahead of me but I was wondering if the name is good from a business viewpoint?

I like the name because it's a play off of my last name, Quach and sounds like crocodile. But, it isn't a very easily spelled out name.

I'm pretty tired and just sort of thinking so excuse me haha

Think about a stranger reading it. You just go huh? I think you would want it to be easily understood and pronounced. When dealing with the public, kiss is best. (Keep It Simple Stupid).

Ya, it does not look easy to pronounce or spell. First thing I though was "how do I say that?"

I'm guessing "quack-ah-dilly." Except you said it was similar to "croc" in crocodile, so now I'm not sure.

I don't think anyone who doesn't know you would get the reference. Probably not the best way to make an impression with the name.

If it is so unusual as to be difficult to pronounce, it will be even harder to remember.
One letter off of the correct spelling, and the web request goes to the 'dead letter office'.

Hard to spell/remember, and thence hard to use as a website name, and a loss in advertising and revenue.

Maybe just shorten it to "Quach", or even use "Croc".

No. Unusual is good, but it also has to be memorable. If they arent sure how to pronounce it, they wont remember it.

If I were you and I wanted something original that was kind of like a play off of my name, I would try to use Jarvis instead of Quach. I'm not trying to be offensive or anything but I honestly wouldn't know how to pronounce your last name as it is. Also keep in mind than in terms of marketing, design and whatever, less is almost always more. So keep it simple.

hah so pretty much what i was thinking. I don't think I could even type out how to pronounce my last name. Maybe say croc with a 'q' in front, qoc?

Looks like I have to to pretend name my business somethine else.

It looks like something I'd order at Poblano's, hold the pico

Unless you are wanting to sell nature/wildlife photography, you really should come up with one easier to pronounce/spell.

If you told me over the phone to go to your website.......(I already forgot what the name was)....quachadille.com (i dunno, just shows you, i read the name .5 seconds ago while reading this thread and I already forgot), I would have no idea where to even start with the spelling.

Definately not a good name.

EDIT-(suprisingly, i went back up and read it again, and I was only off by one L)... :)
