Online ordering customer questions - 04-28-2008, 05:11 PM

I recently did a bridal shoot and I uploaded to photoreflect with my normal pricing setup. I received an email that said she liked the photos and was writing down which images the family members wanted, and wanted to know a price for all of them. Then she said the bride wanted to pick out 40 4x6's of her favorite images and wanted a price for that.

I'm not sure why she would ask this - does she not see the website is intended to make orders with the sizes and prices shown?

She also wants me to remove all of my watermarks

I don't know what else to do but tell her my prices are marked to the left of each image?

She also asked me to shoot a dinner next week for her and wants 100 images on a disc. Do you guys/gals give out full res files?

Crashoran,

I do not give out full res pics to anyone unless they license the rights to the photo/photos or they buy prints of the photos they want but I do not give anyone a CD of my pictures.

I also would not remove the watermarks from your online photos. She is obviously trying to get something for nothing.

It is my guess that she may want to get a price break based on how many pics they order as opposed to the pricing you already have listed.

Should I add in some discount setup like 8% off $100 or more/ 14% off $300 or more?

Just answer in a friendly manner. Say, "my prices for 40 4x6's are $400 (or whatever your real price is per 4x6 * 40) and my price for all the pictures your family wants is this $___ (actual price).

You can also tell her that watermarks can't be removed once uploaded to Photoreflect as it's an issue of protecting the images from other photographers stealing your images for their own portfolio...as it's happened to you in the past. (so it's not obvious that the real reason is you are just keeping them from print-screening).

As for images on disc, it will depend. For weddings, I deliver proofs on a disc for 3 reasons. #1, I'm confident enough in my initial proofs to not be ashamed of any image, #2, I have not priced myself to make all my income off selling prints, and #3, I include a finished product (aka album) as part of the package. There is an obvious difference in the proof image and the finished album image (it's not black&white obvious, but it's like the difference between a Toyota & and Lexus...same company, different brand...maybe this is not the most appropriate analogy....but you get the idea...after the longest parentheses note ever).

The difference between buying prints through me and going to Costco is not only price, but also quality. Sure, the prints from Costco are $0.30 (compared to my $10 fine art print), but the costco techs don't have my vision, my artistry, my skillset, my training, nor do they have the same quality inks, paper, and machines as the pro printers I use. So, I show my clients a comparison and they can see why I charge what I charge for prints.

That's a long answer to your question about files.
The short answer is: UP TO YOU.

:-)

Always remember that a discount comes out of your pocket whereas a bonus only costs you the actual cost of the product. Would you rather give them $8.00 of the $100.00 order or a free 8X10 for a $100.00 order?
