logo critique please! - 05-02-2008, 01:09 PM

I submitted a few ideas a couple of months ago and there was overwhelming support for the logo below.

I am just starting out and have begun to question the brand and logo as I define my image. I want to have an artsy/edgy look versus a clean/simple look. I am wondering if the original logo I decided on is too simple/clean. It also limits my color selection (I tend to want to go with just blue and orange) where as without a graphic I could incorporate more.

I was wondering if as my business evolves if sticking with my name would be a smarter choice rather than b louise photography. With b louise my concern is that there always needs to be something between the b and the louise otherwise it looks like blouise.

I have recently established a blog but if I am going to make the change I'd like to do it sooner than later so there is no confusion. www.blouisephotography.com

I have worked on a couple other ideas - This might not all make sense so any advice is greatly appreciated!

NUMBER 1 (original, not "idea 1")! Love it!

My ONLY suggestion is to just try making the flower smaller and sitting on the same baseline as the type. The only reason i suggest it is because for me the flower read as another "o". Is that what you wanted? If not, maybe if the flower was smaller it would read more as a period. But this could just be me and your current design might be best as-is.

If I were to pick one, I like the original...but I first thought your name was 'bolouse'.

I agree with Dennis and Mike, the large flower says "O". drop it to about 25% of the existing size for starters (don't change the b louise part) and see what happens.

you might also try to see what it would look like if the flower was incorporated into the b, and the space between b and louise reduced appropriately.

There are many schools of thought on your business name, but I use my name simply because it gets my name out there without added confusion. I love your original logo, but if you had your name in there already the connection for the clients would be more seamless (humble opinion alert!).

I like number one, but I agree with d2creative. Make the flower just a bit smaller. As it is the same size at the lettering it is currently reading as another "o". I would make the flower smaller but leave it in the middle as a hyphen rather than lower as a period.

So if you go by Brittani, why are you focusing on Louise so much? Last name I guess? Just confusing to me with 2 possible first names.

I'm going to go against the crowd and choose any of the other options primarily for this reason. Your current logo doesn't look that great when scaled down. Also, after looking at all the beautiful pics on your blog, I kinda got tired of seeing it at the bottom of every picture. I generally prefer a more subtle watermark that is semitransparent and is located within the boundary of the picture itself. I fully recognize that this is just a personal opinion, so it might not be worth anything to you.

And just for fun (and I hope you don't mind) I did a quick screencap of a pic on your blog and shrunk it down by 50%. The flower details get hard to see.

One thing that is awesome is how you've tied the flower theme throughout the website. That's really cool!

I had the same thought when I saw the first thinking the flower was an O..I like the last logo, clean and simple, easy to read.....

I'm laughing, because I would not have done a flower, because I would think it would have eliminated men from the take right away...guess who like it...men? note to self...don't listen to self!!
