Business Card Idea - 05-03-2008, 09:55 PM

Hey guys! I was just hoping y'all could give me some feedback on what everyone thinks about this business card. It would be to market to all different kinds of areas such as weddings, fashion, sports, and so on...

I like that it's simplistic. I think maybe you should create your own lens flair, photograph and use it. I'm assuming that's a digital graphic. I just think you should have a photograph on there, even if it's a very very simple shot.

Thanks Jonny. Ya, someone else recommended that I put a photo on there too. My only thing is that I am trying to just have a card that is generic so that I can hand it out whenever and for any situation. I guess I don't want to hand out a card to a potential bride with a baseball player on the card or vice versa. You know? Personally I just figured that the idea of the business card was to get the "customer" to my website so they could see the different areas that I could service from there and to see my style. I don't know, I'm probably just crazy. Haha.

Might be too dark though - the lettering should stand out better.

Thanks Brian. I was thinking about making the letters pop more before I sent it off to print. Thanks for the advice.

Drop the outer glow on your text, and use stroke instead. The outer glow will look muddy at business card print size, making the text much less crisp and defined. I learned that the hard way with my first card, which looked GREAT on my monitor, but like crap once printed.

Make your card look as fancy as you can without being too "busy."

I get calls and emails from people saying that they are calling ME instead of others because my "business card is too good - obviously [I'm] serious."

As always, YMMV.

Jon

Is your business card the standard 2x3.5 size or is it the fold over type at the white line?

I sed it before, and I'll sed it again, put a baby on the card. May not work if you are a sports or commercial photographer, but if your taget is portraiture, babies work best.

Everyone loves images of babies. Brides are thinking babies, well, most of them are. Anyway, we tried various things, babies won hands down.

When we had our booth at the fair, we used several different cards to see what people responded to. Even husbands would stop and pick up the baby cards to give to their wife. Some women would ask if they could have several different cards, while others just took one of each image.

Every year, we used new cards to help track when they reponded. Cards a year or two old, or more, would come in. When they had the need, they still had the card. People don't like to throw away the babies, even if they aren't their own.

As for your card, I like the concept.

I'm going through the same thing, although I specialize in only two main areas: portraits and weddings. My initial thought was to have something that said it all, but instead I'm going to have at least two different cards, one each for my specialties. But my use of them is to target my marketing, and I could see where having a card that runs the gamut would be worthwhile.

Why aren't you using your own e-mail like info@SPSphotos.com instead of the 'gmail.com"? Doesn't look very professional IMO.

It looks a little too centered to me and have you tried to print it? It looks a bit too dark especially with the yellowish font.
