Ok dumb question, proably asked before also. But just purchased a D300 taxes taken off. At what point if any do I pay the taxes on it. I file quarterly.

As long as you hold a valid sales tax resale certificate, any equipment, props, and consumables used in the creation of photographs for resale are considered as manufacturing equipment and are not subject to sales tax The only times I am aware of that you would owe sales tax would be if you sold them to a consumer or if you later convert them for personal use. At that time the tax would be on the sales price or the current value if converted for personal use.

Equipment would include cameras, lighting, stands. tripods, meters, reflectors, and anything else you use when making images. Consumables would include batteries, CD/DVDs, film, background paper, and anything else used up in creating images.

what about "usage" tax? we recently moved into a "real studio" and got a note from the local tax collector office saying we have to pay "usage tax" on everything that we use to make a sale... cameras, lights, furniture, computers etc...
