I get the occasional question "what does a commercial photographer photograph?"

This client is an Interior Designer and needed some shots of his work for his web page, etc.

Shots of rooms, walls, floors, and many detail shots like these.

Tom - would you mind explaining your set for these types of shots (i.e. iso, shutter speed, aperture . . .)?

I am also curious. Do you paint with light for the original image or are shadows and highlights corrected in post processing?

Thanks for sharing, Tom.

Whose stuff is that behind the sofa in the first shot?

What stuff behind the sofa. I don't see any stuff. I'm old and can't see much anymore.
That's funny. This wasn't the shot submitted to the magazine, and now you know the rest of the story.

Set up is this: Canon 40D 17-40L f8 ISO 100-200, Live view for focus (figure hyperfocal distance first) and exposure. tripod. Occasionally an off camera 580Ex for fill.
self timer or remote release.

KISS method if possible. I do carry a whole studio with me "just in case".

I am a firm believer in the Thompson method of exposure. "" Be familiar with the zone system. Expose for the highllights and adjust the shadows/highlights in PS. ""

Here is another "outtake" from last night.
first shot is before. second is same shot with PS and shadows/highlights adjustments.
It's not a perfect example but you can see there is a difference. Play with the sliders and once you figure out what you like you can fine tune it.
