Question Photo Exhibit/Competition - 06-19-2008, 05:13 PM

I am thinking of enter a Photo Exhibit Competition. I haven't ever done anything like this before. The pictures have to be matted and framed and on the entry form it asks if it is for sale and then for a price. I would love to sell them, what kind of price would I put on something like that? They will be on exhibit I believe July 7-25 or something. Then do they just sell the framed image you provide?

Also where should I go for framing/matting. And can I frame/matte an 8x12 easily without ordering online? I have a couple pictures shot on slide film from last fall when I was shooting for Wyman. And I am afraid if I print 8x10 on at least one of them it might get the elements to close to the edge, or possibly cut some off.

What you can get for the image depends on the image. The subject and the popularity. For your run of the mill image you should start at 300% of your total cost for the image. That includes hard costs, i.e. printing, matting, framing and your time for taking the photo and editing the photo. If it's a limited edition print then the price can go way up, again, depending on the desirability of the image. It's not unusual to see a price tag of $300-$500 for a very nice image with good matting and frame.

Hard to give you an absolute dollar amount w/out knowing more about the image.

Good luck on the contest. Post a copy of the image here for everyone to take a look at.

The are mainly landscape/nature/wildlife. I can't post the pics because I shot them with slide film. Or I guess I can scan them from my album that I have 4x6 prints in. But the quality may not be very good. They got me an A in a class with Wyman! :)

I will see about scanning.

ETA: I don't think I can scan them from my album because I won't be able to get the pages to lie flat. When I take them in to get prints tomorrow I will see about getting them scanned onto a disk.
