Camera Insurance - 06-23-2008, 06:26 PM

I know this has been talked about here before, and I posted something about this in Open Talk, but didn't get any feedback. I currently have TCP insurance. I really like their customer service and what they had to offer, so that is why I choose them. Last year it cost me $500 to insure all of my equipment, laptop and office equipment, plus liability for the business. This year, for some unknown reason, my premium has jumped to $750. That's a 50% increase After talking to someone at there office, she couldn't really explain why it had going up other then it was some sort of thing that has only happened in Texas.

Has anyone else been effected by this? And what typed of other camera insurances are out there that offer the same type of coverage and what are you guys paying?

Mine is insured on a special rider, but I don't earn much money yet, so I'm careful to say I'm not a professional!

NAPP, if you're a member, has insurance and also NANPA.
(www.nanpa.org), so there are other organizations for photographers who meet this need. I hope one applies to your area of expertise and interest.

Best of luck.

It's been discussed that TCP has had a 50% increase in only the state of Texas?!?!?! Really?!??!?! Please show me where......

I did do a search and did not see any other posts about this and because of my research on this topic being discussed I know other members here have TCP insurance and I am trying to see if anyone else has been effected by this. Please read what I post before assuming I am asking a general question about camera insurance (which I have done my research on) and also assuming I did not do a search before hand. Thanks for your contribution </sarcasm>

Merrick,

Haven't renewed mine yet, but I will definitely post when I do. If I take a 50% increase, I ain't renewing with the same company!

I am actually going to do some modifications on my policy this year anyway, but I will know if they make a big jump on the cost.

Anyone ever filed a claim with TCP? Just wondering about the service after the sale. I have PPA insurance now.

I just got an online quote for a minimum amount... $750.

thats not very nice...

if you know of a thread that discusses what merrick is talking about, then maybe help out and post a link to it..

we're always up for a discussion regardless if its been talked about before. we want members to feel that they can ask anything here on TPF and always get a good solid answer... that is one of the many things that sets us apart from the rest.

actually I did mean it nice...I answered the second part of the question, which if you just look at that part, there are lots of threads on it. Then when I read his entire thread again, he was mad because no one answered his thread. He was actually looking for an answer to his first question, not his second. There was no ungliness in my answer, and I'm sorry it came across that way.

Do a search, read the manual, buy a book...Google is your friend. Next thing you know the topics for discussion will be less than half.

Thanks for your input Abel, I am still looking for a policy on my equipment and now at least I don't feel guilty for not being able to find info in the search engine.
