Logo Critique - 07-08-2008, 03:50 PM

Below are the Preliminary links for a logo to choose from, Any Ideas on Which one is the best and what needs to be changed? I plan I using one for my main logo and using them on pictures as well. Please let me know thank you.

I don't think that the focusing reticule will show up well in pictures, and the general public might not even connect it with photography. On that basis, I'd say the second logo is better.

I do like the colour scheme of the first logo--it seems cleaner.

I have to agree with Daniel Bates. I think the second one is better.

Agreed, #2 is the best IMHO.

Thanks for the comments keep them coming. Is there anything I need to change? This is what the logo company came up with, I just want the best design for promotion material and website

I wonder what the second design would look like without the aperture blades graphic?

Exactly... aperture means a lot to photographers but most people will see a weird design in what is a great logo.....try it without. The word photography already states your business

Based on that, I don't think either one will do...in the current state. I like the second one without the aperture blades and a simpler ring. Try to make an nice embroidered shirt...I bet you can't right now.

Also the name 'photography' bothers me being under the 'z'.

Keep it simple...good luck!

The embroidery comment from "Perambulating Mike" is apt -- try to think of every possible place you might want to use a logo, and try to anticipate whether it's too complex for each application. If you can't get someone to embroider it in a size normally found on the left breast pocket of a decent polo shirt (and you think you might want to do that), then simplify it. Alternatively, you could use two designs -- one as complex as your second one for print ads and business cards, and another similar but slightly simplified (by taking out the ring, for example) for less facile media like shirts.

The suggestion to lose the aperture reticule is also apt. Your primary audience won't understand or care. That's a graphic that's only appropriate if you're selling to other photographers. You aren't selling to them, you're competing with them. Start any design project with your end audience in mind.

Finally, you should also keep in mind that your business may change. Are you really ONLY going to take wedding photos? If that's true now, will it also be true when your wedding clients have their first kid a few years (or, God forbid, weeks) down the road, and want someone to photograph the bonnie-wee-bairn? If so, lose the wedding ring, and either just dot the "i" or find some other symbol that will be meaningful both to your business and to your end audience (potential customers).

Good luck,
Jeff

I like the second one best, but in both the crackerjack rings bother me.

My main concern with the first one is at first glance i thought the name of your company was "OBlazin". That would be a serious issue to me. Nothing worse than people not knowing the name of your company even after looking at your logo. Also the ring on that one looks really chessy. So from these two I'd go with the second.

nice concepts, but the first would be the best,

also as a suggestion why not try to create a camera using the idea you already have. the lens can be the ring and the diamond can be the flash.

Well I might be the outcast here, but I looked at your website and I personally like the one you already have........it has a nice blue hue and clean lines......also, I see on your website you do family photography. Are you wanting to gear yourself towards weddings? If so, then I like the ring incoporated........if not, I think the engagement ring should not be included. Just my opinion :) I see you are in Argyle.....I am in Flower Mound.
