Question for the wedding and event photogs - 08-01-2008, 03:13 PM

Where did you guys book clients when you first started? My wife does wedding stationary and does good at it, so she's a channel for me. I also have her channels that I'm going to use to get the word out.

I just wanted to see what others have done and possibly get some ideas to get some business rolling.

Do you mean, if you dont have a physical studio location - where do you meet them? Or where do you find clients?

Before we had the studio we were members of a country club. We met the clients there. We did well there, used the club's meeting rooms, and didnt appear to be fly-by-night which leaves room for concern with no address to walk into. You can't be a schlep and be a member of a country club. Ya know?

If you want clients - network with other wedding vendors, primarily bridal shops. We also own a bridal shop. I talk to tons of brides. Photographers are a dime a dozen lately - everyone's a photographer. If you are good at what you do, and a bridal shop recommends you, you have a shoe in with brides. Direct marketing to your target demographic. WOM is golden.
