"Tear sheets" for portfolios question - 08-02-2008, 08:06 AM

Maybe a silly question- is a tear sheet really taken from a magazine or other publication and added "as is" to a port? The whole page, or would you use only the picture, ad, or whatever.
I am guessing also that you wouldn't tear it out- maybe cut it out with x-acto very straight and pretty? Help... Thanks!

If there is some identifying marks on the page, I think that you would want to keep that information to show which publication it came from. Otherwise it just looks like you tore out a picture from a magazine to stick into your portfolio. I would put one of those sticky flags on the page where you were published and keep the entire magazine. The less you appear to hide, the more credible you will come off.

Does that make sense?? -G

Tear sheets should be the FULL page. When published usually they will provide 1-5 tear sheets for you. If not they you have to buy and "tear" your own. I also like to have the cover to go along with my tear sheet.
