can you get your DBA online or do you have to go to the courthouse in your county?

I have to go to the courthouse, which isn't very far from me. However, I can check online to see if the name is available.

Depends on your county - but most likely you have to go to the courthouse (since the form usually has to be notarized).

If you have a company registered with the Secretary of State however (LLC, Inc, etc), you can file a state dba online through their service.

The courthouse isnt scary! You'd think they'd all be mad like the people at the DMV, but they seem pleased as punch around here. Its been a while, but I thought something had to be notarized too, so the notary is at the courthouse too. Maybe that was for the coorp papers? I just recall needing a notary for something when setting up the biz, so we did all the courthouse stuff at the same time.
