Ken and others need suggestions on printers :D - 09-10-2008, 03:21 PM

I have been asked to do shoots for the 3 housing areas here in Norfolk for various events the soonest being Halloween, then Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, St pattys etc....
For Halloween they want to set up hay bales, pumpkins etc... and then I set up and shoot each child and they receive a free 5X7 print. This would be like 3 days back to back.
So what suggestions do you have for printers? I know Ken suggested a couple a while back but I don't have the PM any more.
TIA

Well now.., how'd you go and lose my PM?

Lots of new stuff on the horizon. Epson has a new fast printer called the (R280). The 4x6 print speed is pretty quick, some where around 11 seconds.

Just received an email from Epson that mentioned their Artisan "All-in-one" series. Can't see buying something like that for printing on location.

Several models of dye sublimation printers have been discussed, but most of them have significant initial costs along with significant supply costs.

I think you'd do well to examine Canon, HP and Epson's photo quality printers and compare their initial and operating costs along with how they perform on both OEM and non OEM photo paper. Bear in mind that the photo print speeds are usually faster than they will actually print a photo.

I am in the same boat: on-location prints. One job wants 5x7, and the others are for Photoshop seminars I teach and digital scrapbooking events where they want 12x12 photos.

1. Is there such thing as a large-format dye-sub printer for the home or low-volume pro market?
2. What inkjet large format will provide good quality and decent portability?

I need some specific recommendations to start my search. Right now, I barely even know what to Google!
