Smile Grant for Small Business questions - 09-28-2008, 10:54 AM

Since I haven't start up my own business, will grant be worth it to help me to start up my business since I don't make much? Have anyone experienced with small business grant before? I want to know more about cons and pros. Also, what about loan? Do I have to have a good credit in order to get loan? Tell me about that part, too. Not sure if anyone ask about this but just though I post this and if anyone know. Thanks!

I don't know that much about it except that to get the SBA to consider your grant/loan request you need to have an iron clad business plan in writing.
There are professional grant writers out there who know the ins and outs of the procedure.

I found that SBA a loans are hard to get and one bank told me they don't loan less than 50K. I went through Accion Texas for a small business "micro loan". Their credit requirement are less stringent as is there business plan requirement. (although having a solid business plan is highly recommended)

The sad news is due to the current financial melt down, excellent credit is necessary. I am attempting to buy my first home, and the real estate agent said your credit is good, but I need excellent. I'll try again next year. I think people who will attempting loans will find this more often. I would start making payments for your student loans, then in a year, try again. Nothing is easy these days, I wish you well on your endevor.

That's very true about those what's going on like those bailout passed the bill. I haven't brought my first home yet, thank god. Good thing I wait. I would love to own loft so I can have studios in there. In fact, they do have nice loft in Lubbock that I might get my first home but I would love to live Lake Travis. So I am not sure yet.
