I've recently decided to create a baby plan collection (below). I don't know how to price it. What's reasonable and how do I communicate to the client in such a way that they see it as a great value and aren't scared by the price tag. If everything were ala carte, it would be $1500-ish.

A Year in the Life

Document the beginning of your little one's journey through 5 sessions during their first year. There are five unforgettable stages in this time that you will want to cherish for a life time... maternity, newborn, sitting, crawling, and their first birthday. This package includes it all! Five weekday sessions, 50 custom birth announcements, 50 brag cards, one 4x10 storyboard per session, one 10x20 storyboard that will include one image from each session, one low resolution file of our favorite image (for your facebook/my space/blog profile, cell phone wallpaper, or just to email to all your friends!), a custom designed album, and 15% off your initial print order after each session.

Are you sure this is the route that you want to go? Even if you can keep it under a grand a lot of possible clients will be driven away. I have found that it is easier to sell something like this in smaller bites. I would start with just the maternity session and one of the story boards for a price. And if the sale from that reaches your price point then offer the newborn session. If that is a good sale then tell them they qualify for your first year album program that will also include images from the first sessions. You will need some fine print here to cover missed sessions and early termination, etc.

I agree with Don. Offering the maternity and the newborn in this is going to cause you some trouble -- what happens when they call once the baby is 3 months old? Also, if you're going to offer something like a 15% print discount, make sure your prices can support that. Make sure your cost of goods and cost of doing business are not only being covered with that 15% discount, but that you're also set for actually making a profit on these sessions. You are giving away a LOT with each session here.
