Credit Card Processing - Updated Info - 11-10-2008, 12:45 AM

I know that this has been a frequent topic, but nothing lately. Anyone have any suggestions on credit card processing/merchant account providers? I wanted to avoid Paypal and am not sure how much I will use it at first, but I'm hoping to increase my per session sales by being able to accept credit cards.

Immediately after I filed my DBA I got so many offers for credit card plans that I just started tossing them.

I know that doesn't help, but perhaps if you haven't done the business legalities this would be a good time ?

I went with Best Merchant Rates. Haven' seen anyone offer a better solution so far.

I use power pay america. I do not have a credit card machine but instead use their virtual terminal. I process all transaction online or via phone.

if you are a Costco or Sam's Club member, they also offer this service as well. I don't have it, but a few friends of mine love it

Pay attention to what the fees are. Many are based on the amount of transactions and $s you do. PayPal is a good choice for low volume and they have a virtual terminal so your client doesnt have to have an account. The monthly fee is low and its easy to use.

If you do decide to shop around for someone, keep in mind that everything is negotiable. Just about every company out there (that is primarily a CC processing company - not PayPal) will match competitors, beat competitors, vary equipment offers, etc. Don't just say, "Okay" and hang up.

Oh, but once you start talking to them, it's almost impossible to get rid of them... Expect to feel very popular as your phone keeps ringing with them trying to sell you. :o)

I get at least 5 phone calls a day and 15 offers in the mail on a regular basis from companies that want my business. I can give them your info if you'd like
