OK, I was just messing around on myspace and I found one of my client's pages. Im not shocked to see my images there, but I would have thought she'd scan the prints. Just goes to show, never think that people wont do something. She musta taken a screen shot of her online gallery. I can see where pictology put our watermark photo. One of the prints looks like it was printed off of the low res gallery, and then scanned. Then they were uploaded to MS. OMG. Im so skeeved. Never think making things look crappy wont deter someone.

I just had the same thing happen to me a few weeks ago. I was flabbergasted as to how a picture I took ended up on Facebook. I wasn't too upset with the couple since we're related, but I decided to watermark completely through the photographs in my online gallery to prevent any future attempts at copying my work. People are very "crafty" when they don't want to pay for something.

I have started to "give" 3 of their favs sized for facebook and with info to my website on each photo. I explain it is a gift to thank them for the order and that they may use them for facebook, myspace, etc. I would rather get free advertising than crap showing up.

The images in my sports galleries look like this, and that still doesn't stop them from being all over facebook.

Well... until I saw Tom's post I was going to suggest that making them really small will help... guess not... that's pretty sad.

This just happened to us also. In our case, this was a fellow photog who asked us to take family pics for her for the holidays. She then took the photos, cropped our waterwark out and used them as a banner on her blog (which she uses to promote her photogaphy business)

Seriously...she was advertising her photography services with our photos.
Lesson learned...no more watermarks on the bottom corner of the image.

Some people are amazing.

This is why I include low res images with my contact info imprinted on them with every package. I make it clear to them that they can post them online, just leave my logo and website and copyright notice on them.

Now if I can just get my mother to stop printing those versions on plain paper and framing them.

My Mom does that too! My senior teched it up a bit by scanning it after printing it. Even prettier.

Ha ha - my mom just took a low res image of our granddaughter that I had emailed them just because they are the great-grandparents and out of town and used it to have a mouse pad made for my husband as a gift! I appreciate that she thought it was a cute image, but I wish she had mentioned she was doing it beforehand - I would have happily emailed her a larger version for use.

Yea, Holly.. that's a new low. LOL

Lisa - I know.. my sister has done that in the past, but at least I was able to convince her that there were better ways. And to think that my mother is the patient one in the family.

People buy 8x10s at our drag races we do, and right infront of us they will tell the other person or people they are with to just get one and they can just scan it and make copies. Most people dont realize just cause you buy a print dose not mean you bought the copyrights of the photos, they just dont know, and or dont care.

So they buy the photo, go to kinkos make copies and scan them and put them on the internet yadda yadda.

We actually sell digital negatives burnt on a cd now for $50 an Image.
