Millers vs. Mpix - 12-15-2008, 12:22 PM

I've been using Mpix...wondering if there is any reason to change to Millers...I know they are related. What are the advantages of using Millers instead?

I'm wondering the same thing. I have been using Mpix and just signed up for Miller's.

I got an offer from Miller's to get a few 8x10s for free so they can show me their processing skills. If I understand the email correctly I send them a few files and they send me back 8x10s--before and after correction. I figure if nothing else I should take them up on their free offer!

When you start making bigger single orders, Miller's starts becoming cheaper than mpix.

Mpix has more shipping options.. the only shipping Miller's does is FedEx overnight - and the cost is built in so there isn't an additional shipping charge.

There are several options not available via mpix, only Miller's.. mounting materials like Masonite, for instance.

I use Miller's for everything... haven't used mpix for anything since I got my Miller's account.

Oh.. important thing to remember for Miller's.. they have a minimum $10 order... if your order is less than that, they will still charge you $10. So if you ever get in a place where you need just a couple of prints quickly, send them to mpix. :)

This is correct. The prints will have "Before Correction" and "After Correction" printed on them in the lower-right corner, I believe. I have a Miller's account but haven't used it yet. I probably should before they close it, which I think they do with accounts that are idle for a specific period. Mostly, I've been using MPIX since day one.

If you're running a properly calibrated workflow - you DO NOT WANT ANYONE TO CORRECT YOUR IMAGES!

I've been using Miller's for years now. I wouldn't think of changing.

They're more expensive, but worth it. The downside is the minimum order. I just placed a large print order for a client yesterday and called today to add a 4x6. That will be a $10 4x6 print (I'm still making a good profit on it, but still...)

One HUGE advantage that Millers provides is telephone support.
Mpix will only deal with you via email.

I made an Mpix order today because is was small and I like their interface.
But, I put the wrong zip on the delivery address and there is no way I could see to call and get it corrected.

Edit:
That thought prompted me to check my email.

Mpix has corrected the address.. took em about 15 minutes....that's pretty solid customer service.

I guess that's kind of where I am Captain Tom....sir....I'm pretty happy with mpix....so I need a good reason to switch and so far I haven't really found one. I don't do tons of business.....so...I'm trying to see if there is a reason I should switch. I have found the email response unbelievably fast during working hours...after hours and the weekend...well, lets say, don't be in a hurry for a response!!
