Free Blog vs. Prophoto - 12-17-2008, 02:20 AM

I need a blog. Have been looking at some freebies and then started reading about Prophoto. So, can I get your opinion about free vs. non-free blogs? What are the pros/cons? I do have a part time photo business building to full time (hopefully), so I want the blog to reflect my goals.

Will appreciate any suggestions/feedback.

Thanks.

sharon - there is no difference technically - many people like the prophoto blog because of it's ability to be customized. if you are savvy enough - you can customize blogger was well, with your own backgrounds, you can hide the blogger header, etc. it's all just a matter of usability and how comfortable you are with css - html, etc.

I agree with Janet. I am savvy with css/html, but love that I don't have to be with ProPhoto2.

Sharon - read this thread. Scroll down to post #8. I did a quick little review about PP2.

If the blog is for business...I would recommend investing in PP2. You won't be sorry. If you're not satisfied, Jared will refund 110% of your money. That's a hard deal to beat.

The ProPhoto blog will give you a very professional and easily customized look on your own domain (in other words www.yourwebsite.com/blog). You can do that with Wordpress alone, which is what I do, but it takes a lot of work and (as was stated above) some techincal knowledge to get it to look and work the way you want it to. I have done a few redesigns and it takes a lot of time... time that I don't really have, for results that I'm never totally happy with. So in my opinion, you're getting a great value with such a nice looking generator.

Your web presence is the first contact that so many clients have with your work and your business, so it is a good investment to have an eyecatching, usable and professional looking site and blog. You can do all of that with the free platforms but you will have to do a lot more work.

Wordpress, which is what the prophoto template system goes on, is a free blogging setup.
Tons of free templates for it exist, and it's fairly easy to use. Heck, installing the basic setup is the hardest part, and you still have to do that with prophoto.

Agree with Sunny!!

Jared is very quick in responding to emails if you have an issue. I tried the free wordpress for about six months, then selected PP v1. When Ver2 came out I immediately purchased it. Everything is pretty much automated in ver2.
