Press pass is press pass, but if you trying to get to big events, still need your employee to call and arrange it... I think... so if you trying to get at least decent one, get picture stock.. u will need to pay $15 for each event, but.. at least they contact vendors and let u know if it is confirmed... other then that... need to work for media to get good press pass IMHO

I've looked into these pay press passes before and found they are basically useless. Most places that will accept it, would probably let anyone with a big lense in as well. For any pro or semi-pro events, they will get you nothing. There may be an occasional exception to that rule, but very few and far between.

Save your money.

waste of money. any website advertising you can get in for FREE because you are a member of the press is a joke.

well we can print and print media passes, still for pro or semi-pro events, they require accredited organization to call them and set accreditation for particular time and date of event.. so all these printed passed is worthless.

My personal opinion, the best thing to do, start from free events, games, etc.. and slowly grow as good photographer, photojournalist and then may be go to small magazines, local newspapers, etc… don’t see any other way.

IMHO

Yeah, it is a bunch of crap. In Texas it seems that every news outlet is basically on it's own as far as rganizational credentials go. The Chronicle, The DMN, the Statesman, lest we forget the Express-News all issue ID badges to staff and in some cases stringers ( I know that the Chronicle has HPD do a freelancer ID bagde that has the HPS logo, the Hearst logo and the photog's picture on it) but that's all as far as press creds. We covered a murder in Denton in the spring and all I had was my NT Daily ID badge saying who I was and the cops gave me all kinds of crap. They let me do my job but it was a hassle. One of my photo j proffs said that some of the county Sheriff's Depts (Denton and Dallas in this case) used to issue media ID badges and some cities (I guess like the afore mentioned Space City). As far as a thing around your neck that says PRESS getting you into anywhere, nuh uh, Unless your editor or whoever calls ahead and they know you're coming then it acts as a proof of who you are. Sports have their own passes they make for the media. You can't show up to Reliant and flash a Houston Chronicle Freelance ID bagde and it'll get you in. On a side note to all this I've wondered why NPPA doesn't so anything about it. Youre supposed to be a working professional to be a member (so they say) so IN THEORY they could be a kind of accrediting body for us news folks.

What if you wanted to get into a storm area such as Southeast Texas right after Ike to get shots of the damage? What kind of press creds do you need for that?

Real ones. (Bonafides)

They've already arrested people posing as press and emergency personnel.
