Question Paying collected taxes - 12-22-2008, 12:58 PM

I have a question that may seem silly, but I've looked on here and on the comptroller's website and not been able to find the answer. I have my license to collect taxes and have been doing so. Am I supposed to send the taxes I collect each month, or is it due when I file my return?

It is due at the end of the year for some! They will send you something in the mail! If you are big time and make thousands of dollars a month, this is the case.

The Texas Comptrollers office should send you a notice. I get mine yearly and the tax is due on January 20th.

You should call them ASAP and find out how you set it up. If you do not file in the correct time frame then penalties and interest are going to be outrageous. Most of the time you file monthly or quarterly.

You should get a notice about a month in advance when your sales taxes are due. I still pay quarterly.

Basically it's your responsibility to file whether you receive the paper work from the State or not. They send it out as a courtesy. Forms are available on line. As per when you pay, Question No 2 answers your question...

Okay, thanks. They did send me notice for a return due in January, so that's what I'm doing. I'll let my CPA handle it until I feel more secure.
