dvd slideshow software recommendation? - 12-22-2008, 04:21 PM

I'm not sure where to ask this question- there's a "hardware" forum, but not "software"... anyway, I've created a dvd slideshow for a boutique display proposal on iDvd/iMovie and the image quality is terrible. I don't know why since mac usually does a great job with their software. The images look all pixelated. Am I doing something wrong? If that's the way they look, does anyone have a great and affordable software they'd recommend?

Pixelated.... On your computer or on your tv? If it is on the TV I would say there is a setting off. If it is on your computer I would say yes it may be because your computer monitor is a higher resolution.

Final Cut Express will give you much more control. Sony, Adobe, and Apple make pro end video software.

I used iMovie... the HD version that I still keep and I love the outcome.
Another tool I use is FotoMagico.

I use Arcsoft DVD Slideshow, nothing real fancy, but for a quick slide show that keeps people attention it works. The one thing I wanted was one that would fit the slideshow to the music.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one with issues! It looks bad on tv but also computer. Does it also look bad on your computer?

Count another vote for Photodex's ProShow Gold and/or ProShow Producer. Play around with the free trials (just keep in mind the trial output is unfortunately watermarked - but hey, it's a free trial).

Keep in mind that Proshow only works on the Windows platform. I am a recent convert to the Mac, and never found anything to come close. So, I now run XP on VMWare Fusion and Proshow Producer runs great.

As for your quality issue, check your output/rendering settings. If it were windows, you need to saving your projects in .avi if you are storing to the hard drive and will play them from there. I am guessing Mac's use .avi files, too. If burning to a DVD, you would think that they would have multiple quality settings there too.

I use AutoMuvee Producer, Roxio, and Pinnacle Studio, to name a few.
