Selecting a class for Texas School? - 01-01-2009, 07:33 PM

I've narrowed it down to about 6 - discarded wedding stuff... and editing (I'm a geek enough already, lol)... and I have it down to these 6, I think. ;-) Any of which I think would be useful.

Could some of you who have attended provide some input/feed back?

These are my top 6 thus far in order of preference:

Carl Caylor: Natural Light Photography - Unplugged
Jeff & Julia Woods: Boutique Studio
Tony Corbell: The Power of Light
Jennifer Hillenga: Children, Families, & Seniors
Bry Cox: Creativity, Fashion, Success
Sarah Petty & Vicki Taufer: Branding the Boutique Studio

Have any of you taken workshops with any of them before? What'd you think?

Thanks!

Carl Caylor and Tony Corbell would both be good if you need help with lighting. Carl will pretty much work with natural light only, while Tony will be teaching studio lighting and using flash with natural light.
The two Boutique studio classes will be geared towards niche marketing and studio branding. They will help you identify what is unique about your photography and create a marketing plan around that.
I have seen Bry Cox's work, but have not heard him speak. I think weddings are a big part of his thing.
Jen Hillenga will be all over the map and even she can't tell you what is coming next.

I just went to the Texas School Forum to look at comments from last years classes, but they have been deleted to get ready for this year.

Thanks Don! Tony Corbell wasn't even on my list until my wonderful DH started looking people up and found a video with him... and I liked his style. So I pulled him back out of the discard pile and started rethinking it all. *grin*

Cox's work was in one of the PPA mag's I have from the contest they had. I think he had an honorable mention... but it's the same image that's on the TPS info.

Tony is from west Texas. He and I were in the same class taught by Dean Collins twenty some odd years ago. Dean hired Tony right out of the class and he worked with Dean for over five years and was lured away by Hasselblad. You've got less than 27 hours to make your decision. If you decide to take Tony tell him I talked you into it.

Tony spoke at SWPPA convention in October and was GREAT. I'd love to take his, but I'm focusing my choices on marketing this time out.

I've narrowed it down to 34 possible classes. Hopefully by tomorrow at this time I'll have signed up for something.

Do we know how long it will be before we find out what class we actually *got*?

Brad, I think it usually takes three to four weeks to get everyone notified. I didn't find an FAQ or FYI on the website.

You usually get a letter in the mail about a month after registration.

Heh, I don't think anyone wants to list their three choices until after 11 tonight. LOL

I will be in Doug Box's class along with Peter Horn as instructor assistants (Wranglers). I will try to get my wife into John Wilson's PhotoShop class. Only three hours and twenty minutes to go.
