If you have NAPP membership you can get 15% off at Adobe.com.

I am assuming you are planning to use the software for commercial purposes, otherwise you can get a educational discount, if you have a student in home.

You can always try amazon.com to get CS3 for cheap. A team mate of mine got CS3 Extended for $200.00. He was biting his nails thinking it might be pirated software but amazon does have a great return policy. He got it in the mail not to long ago, installed it, and registered through Adobe. I was quite surprised. It was wrapped up in a brand new unopened box! Being able to upgrade to CS4 is now a possibility for him.

What Don is offering is Photoshop 5.5. Which was released around mid 2000. I learned Photoshop after this release.

Actually I have a copy of PhotoShop 7 the version before CS1. I am using CS3 and may upgrade to CS4.

If I buy CS4 for full price then I could sell you CS3, however if I upgrade to CS4 I have to enter the serial number of CS3 then download the upgrade. The CS3 will be gone so there is nothing to sell. I skipped a couple of upgrades so I had to purchase the full version of CS3. That's why I could sell version 7.

Although version 7 is still very usable it is several generations old and I don't recommend that you buy it from me. CS3 would be version 10. A lot of new bells and whistles have been added and each new version is just enough different that an instructor can only be current on the latest one or two.

Any of the last PS versions will allow you more control than Elements. Cs-CS4. Personally, I bought the full version of CS2, skipped 3 and upgraded to CS4 a few months ago. Kinda worth it, but still unsure.
Your best bet would be the educational discount if you can get it. The UPGRADE is $200 on Amazon, not the full version, at least for new products.

You should be able to download the free 30 day trial version a few days before school, learn it at the school then have a couple of weeks to practice before you have to decide to buy it or let it go.
